When we are at the Junior Sheep show in Cooperstown New York, we stopped at the Belgian Ommegang Brewery. Being amateur micro-brewers, we were very interested in the operation and of course the tasting of beer afterwards. We saw bottling in action as well as the huge fermenting tanks. I’ve always been interested in all […]

Blue Mountain overlooks the road in the distance as we leave the quaint Adirondack town which houses a museum filled with exhibits of Adirondack lore and history. This area is famous for hiking, boating, camping, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing.
While we were in town we were met by the Blue Mountain Lake greeting committee.
Some lake views […]

Need an internet connection to more than one computer? To save money you could try using a used cisco router. In my area there are several locations where you can purchase new routers but generally if you look in the local Pennysaver there is a computer section that lists all kinds of used computer equipment. […]

Speaking of Agriculture, I came across these photos of our sheep showing days in 4H. This was 5 years ago at the Chenango County Fair. The sheep on the right, Brimble, is now our oldest gal, but back then she was a sprite and looks like she could have used some Alli for weight control. […]

New York schools are inundated with state tests. But apart from the goal of doing well on these tests, our school has some classes that many city schools do not. Otselic Valley offers FFA, the Junior FFA, Tech and Ag (agricultural) classes. FFA used to stand for Future Farmers of America and is a […]

Everyone has heard of the Fingerlakes wineries. They make some of the best wine in the world and the wine tours are always a fun way to see the beautiful countryside. Sipping a fruity new blend by the lake with a good lunch is a relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
The hard part is deciding […]

Even though South Otselic is a tiny town we have some pretty good technology available to us. Currently there are two options for high speed internet, cable and DSL. I was instrumental in bringing DSL to this town or we would have been dialing up until a few years ago. Now we also have Time […]

A new discount furniture store recently opened in Norwich. We need some small tables and possibly a new couch as our living room hand me down is finally starting to show signs of wear. They don’t make furniture like they used to. Our couch was my mother-in-law’s and is pretty old. It’s called […]

Gilbert Lake State Park, at the foot of the Catskills, is a lovely place to spend an afternoon . The day we spent there was chilly and wet but we still had fun and it is such a peaceful spot. You can rent the lovely stone lodge for the day which has a rustic old […]

If you are a regular reader you know I love music of all kinds, even the occasional rap or hip-hop. I always found Marky Mark, the first white rapper, to be an interesting fellow and he ended up developing into a fine actor, starring in some top notch movies. You might know him as mark […]

Isn’t she cute? I love her dainty, upright ears and black spots on her head and legs. She may be a keeper depending on how her fleece turns out. I love her personality too. The lambs have been enjoying a romp in the barnyard but with the coming freezing rain (again), they will back in […]

If you read my other blog, you know that I am great lover of music. I also recently bought a new radio and cd player. This was because the model that came with the car broke and I simply cannot drive without tunes. So imagine my delight when I heard that there were going to […]

I was going through my regular blog reading and came across two great posts about different areas of upstate new York worth sharing. On my drive home from the YMCA I snapped a few shots of views that are characteristic of my area and probably many others in rural New York. Lissa blogs about her […]

As the snow starts disappearing I had a memory of this snowman and accompanying dog that my youngest son sculpted a few winters ago. Isn’t it cute? I think it’s very life like and apparently our dog did too as he spent some time sniffing around the snow terrier! I am hoping that this is […]

Bow hunting in New York is very popular and it’s something our entire family takes part in. Those of us too young to hunt, participate in archery leagues or 3d shoots. 3d shoots are my favorite and I look forward to them every year as soon as the weather turns. There is one particular course […]

Central New York ski areas are notorious for having skis and snowboards stolen. My son had his board stolen at Toggenburg a few weeks ago. That’s the board pictured on the left. The police say the chances of getting a stolen board back are very small. He is 13 years old and had bought the […]

I used to fix computers up until this year. I learned how to build them and made my own computer. It booted first try too! After I was adept at fixing and building them, I hung out a shingle and started a business. I limited my area to Chenango County. I would visit a client’s […]

As I type this it’s snowing outside and I hear the Redwinged Blackbirds singing. My boys will most likely be skiing with the school ski club today for the last time this season. I don’t think either boy will ski next year as Mike plans on playing Junior Varsity basketball and Dan has been skiing […]

In 2003 I felt compelled to email Eliot Spitzer who at that time was New York’s attorney general. I thought he was doing an excellent job of rooting out corruption and wasn’t afraid to take on the big guys, including Wall Street. His fight for the environment was important to me also. As a […]
